On 26 of May Georgia celebrates its Independence Day. In 1918 on May 26 the National Council of Georgia adopted state independence act. The Indepedence of the Democratic Republic of Georgia - which had been recognized by the majority of the European States - ended almost 3 years later following the russian occupation. Georgia regained its Independence 70 years later on April 9th of 1991 but declared May 26 as national holiday dedicated to the Independence of the country.
